All cultures have their share of superstition rituals. Italians are well known for being a very superstitious crowd. This becomes really evident at weddings. In Italy the groom carries the bride across the threshold of their new house to keep away bad spirits which could lurk from below.
Rice is also thrown at the newly married couple just after the ceremony. Rice is meant to symbolise fertility and prosperity. In some regions of Italy coins are thrown to the bride and groom also for this purpose. Maybe because Italians always like to see the bright side of everything, they believe that rain on your wedding day is a good omen. This is believed to bring good luck to the couple. So, British brides don’t despair over a few drop of rain, under the Tuscan sky, it is a recipe for success !
