Throughout history roses have been unquestionably the most favoured flower. Paintings of roses decorated the walls of Egyptian palaces. The Romans adorned statues of their gods with garlands of roses and rained rose petals over their celebrations. Early Christians condemned the rose as a symbol of paganism and lust, but the people would not abandon them. Nearly a thousand years later, Pope Leo IX consecrated the rose to the Virgin Mary.
